Refuse to hand the whole of your heart . . .
I don’t know the answer to the news of this particular war, or any war for that matter, but rapid-fire rage ain’t it for me.
I understand the complexity, the history, the risk of false equivalence. Yet I don’t have an answer and I’m not sure having an answer is the best use of my energy at this moment. I’ll listen, I’ll learn, I’ll be slow to have opinions, I’ll pray in my own ways against fast-talking final solutions, and all of it in deep hope for peace. I’d love to hear from others how you receive, respond to, and act upon in such moments.
“For nothing is fixed, forever and forever and forever, it is not fixed; the earth is always shifting, the light is always changing, the sea does not cease to grind down rock. Generations do not cease to be born, and we are responsible to them because we are the only witnesses they have. The sea rises, the light fails, lovers cling to each other, and children cling to us. The moment we cease to hold each other, the sea engulfs us and the light goes out.”
- James Baldwin
