Texting All the Memes
Can we talk about the tiny asteroid
photo-bombing the Webb telescope?
Can we talk about the pet raccoon
that loves making gingerbread houses?
When we have the time, can we talk
about the grizzled man in the woods
snapping awkwardly-close selfies
to tell us we can live weird as we want?
Can we talk about the Bengals fan
mocking the Chiefs fan’s baked potato
she keeps pulling from her pocket to eat?
Can we talk about the one that captured
the angst, the joy, the weight of it all?
Can we talk about Snoop Dobby Dobb?
Can we talk about the friendly reminder,
the also me, the if you know you know?
Can we talk about the one that made us
laugh out loud, and how we don’t know why?
Can we talk about the less flamboyant relative
of the Boom Chakalaka? Too much.
Can we talk? How about now, or maybe
later this week? Busy week. You?
MARCH 3RD READING AT WISEBLOOD
I’m excited to do a reading alongside my friend and fellow Charlotte Street resident Courtney Faye Taylor at Wiseblood Booksellers in a few weeks.
Courtney’s book of visual poetry, CONCENTRATE, won the Cave Canem award last year, and her work is phenomenal. If you’re in Kansas City I hope you can come!
What I’m currently reading: Carlo Rovelli’s The Order of Time, Temple Grandin’s Visual Thinking, Ed Yong’s An Immense World
What I’m currently listening to: Sam Evian, Bonnie Raitt, Margo Price, The Beatles, Courtney Marie Andrews, and Cher’s “Believe” on repeat by request
